At this time, although all Second Career Assistance Network (SCAN) seminars are postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Veterans & Transitioning Military still need the information from these seminars. H2H has put together some of the questions they get asked whenever they speak to Serving Military & Veterans. There is no cost to either a veteran, reservist or employer to register and participate in Helmets to Hardhats.

Can I transfer any skills I learned in the military to the construction industry?

Yes! Once you choose the trade you are interested in joining they will work with you to decide if your military training can be credited to your apprenticeship certification.

Once you commence an apprenticeship program and start working you receive wages and benefits just like every other trades person on the jobsite according to the collective agreement.

NO! You must understand though that an apprenticeship program can go from 3 to 5 years. You need to keep that in consideration when you choose a trade.

You can join the program any time you want. You don’t have to wait to be released from the CAF earlier the better.
